2 Seconds Or Less is a 501(c)(3) public charity, formed in 2011 because of the statistic that approximately every 2.43 seconds (or less) someone in the world dies from malnutrition. We plant nutrition gardens at schools in Zimbabwe to teach sustainable solutions to hunger - solutions that aren't just temporary but develop and inspire change in the schools we work in and the surrounding communities. 2 Seconds Or Less (2SOL) is dedicated to empowerment, sustainability and intelligent development in Zimbabwe; but most of all, displaying to others the love that Christ first showed us (1 John 4:19).

You can be a part of creating exponential change and empowerment in the Zimbabwe community for the glory of God and betterment of His people by building a large-scale nutrition garden at a local school using local vegetables, fruit trees, and herbs.

APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2015

TRIP DETAILS

Description

2 Seconds Or Less is a 501(c)(3) public charity, formed in 2011 because of the statistic that approximately every 2.43 seconds (or less) someone in the world dies from malnutrition. We plant nutrition gardens at schools in Zimbabwe to teach sustainable solutions to hunger - solutions that aren't just temporary, but develop and inspire change in the schools we work in and the surrounding communities. 2 Seconds Or Less (2SOL) is dedicated to empowerment, sustainability and intelligent development in Zimbabwe; but most of all, displaying to others the love that Christ first showed us (1 John 4:19).

A Missions Internship with 2 Seconds Or Less is not easy. Many days will be spent out at the school swinging heavy African tools and hoeing the hard packed earth. Transportation involves riding in the back of a truck bed, or long bike rides. You will be required to attend daily Shona lessons and be quizzed on your progress. Our days will start early and end late. You'll be asked to take initiative, to sacrifice your pride and self for the well-being of others, and to let go of your first world standards for the duration of the trip. We do this because when we step foot on Zimbabwean soil, we count it our duty to speak, travel, eat, dress, and work like a Zimbabwean. This is how we earn respect in their culture and open the door for sharing our love for Christ.

Projects May Involve:

  • Creation/Completion of a large-scale nutrition garden at a local school using local vegetables, fruit trees, and herbs
  • Participation in teaching of sustainable agriculture principles (e.g. composting, livestock cropping, etc.)
  • Participation in meetings designed to equip local school staff and community members to effectively manage a nutrition garden and use it for nutrition intervention
  • Implementation of a feeding program
  • Creation of a livestock project involving chickens or rabbits for meat production

 Long Term Goals

  • To assist in the sustainable development of nutrition assistance at schools in Zimbabwe
  • To increase school attendance by offering nutrition programs at government schools
  • To empower the people of Zimbabwe to find local solutions for malnutrition and hunger
  • To be an example of the love Christ first showed us by selfless acts of service and sacrifice
  • To create exponential change and empowerment in local communities for the glory of God and betterment of His people
